CMA member celebrates 5 years of growth

Edinburgh-based brand and content agency, Rationale, celebrated its fifth anniversary this month, following an 89% job growth rate over the past eighteen months.

This marks several years of growth for the agency, which have included becoming B Corp certified in 2022 and moving to a new office at the heart of Edinburgh’s creative hub in Leith in 2023.

Co-founders Rowan Morrison and Svein Clouston set up Rationale in 2019, with the aim to pursue their shared vision of establishing an agile, strategic creative agency with a focus on impact. Now entering its fifth year, Rationale has seen some exciting developments over the past several months, from the growth of its Senior Management Team to having spearheaded a national television and out-of-home campaign for Bupa.

The core of Rationale’s business offering is helping brands create impact through their strategy, storytelling, and creative design. As well as driving brands’ propositions and marketing campaigns, this also means guiding them on how to best communicate their purpose and wider corporate social responsibility.

The agency’s clients range from local consumer brands and national healthcare providers to global investment banks and medical technology startups. Alongside working with a strong base of UK brands, Rationale continues to grow its presence in the US market, working with clients in California, New York, and beyond. Rowan and Svein are also regulars on the medical tech conference circuit, both representing clients and pursuing new opportunities.

Co-founder Rowan Morrison had this to say on the agency’s approach: “Our proposition has always been about impact: How can we help brands communicate effectively, but also communicate their purpose. When we started Rationale, we knew that keeping people at the heart of our growth was essential, and this was one of our main drivers behind becoming a B Corp. We now have an exceptionally driven and dynamic team.”

Looking ahead, Rowan believes there are plenty of successes in store for the team at Rationale as the business continues its growth journey. “We feel very established now, with a great team and strong client base. The next five years for us will be about building on recent successes to pursue bigger opportunities. We’re keen to branch out into industries like climate tech and solidify ourselves as an agency for brands with complex challenges. Our people will continue to be the drivers behind this, and I’m forever amazed by the talent and dedication they bring to helping us see our vision through.”
