Kerry Wakefield wins ‘Art Director of the Year’ at prestigious BSME Awards
John Brown’s Kerry Wakefield has won the ‘Art Director of the Year – Branded Content’ category at the prestigious 2017 BSME Awards for her trailblazing work on Waitrose Food.
The BSME judges felt Kerry’s work “epitomises the brand for its customer. With striking covers and an original take on the treatment of food photography”.
Kerry said: “I am humbled to win such a prestigious award in such a strong category. A big thank you to my team and my client for their continuous support.”
William Sitwell, Editor of Waitrose Food, commented: “Kerry Wakefield is one of the most talented art directors in the magazine business. She joined the magazine in 2003 and became art director four years ago. Her tireless work has created a style that perfectly fits the brand of Waitrose, and under her art direction the styling, photography and illustration has reached a standard admired by her peers across the media landscape.”
Waitrose Food’s distinctive identity is the key to its success. It’s loved as much by the readers who pick it up every month as it is by the client, Waitrose. The supermarket chain has been happy to leave its publication in the capable hands of John Brown for the past 18 years – a lifetime in the competitive world of customer publishing. Kerry Wakefield is the guardian of this visual distinctiveness, and it is through her and the rest of the Waitrose Food team’s hard work, great taste and consummate publishing skills that the magazine continues to stand out in the world of food publishing.
