Candis magazine is health sector champion of The Big Give for the ninth year running
CMA members Newhall Publishing discuss one of their most popular magazines in Candis and the Big Give Christmas Challenge which is now in its 9th year. You can donate to the cause here.
Newhall Publishing has published Candis since 1962. As one of Britain’s top-selling subscription women’s magazines, Candis is packed with features, health news, recipes and competitions in a neat handbag-sized package. Each issue is crafted in-house by a dedicated Candis editorial team who, led by Editor Debbie Attewell, manage the whole process from ideas generation and execution to commissioning, writing, editing and design followed by the full pre-printing process. The readership is incredibly diverse and national – with a small percentage of overseas subscriptions.
As well as 12 issues a year, a Candis subscription also gives the reader year-round offers, discounts and savings on days out, shopping and much more. All these elements – including the management of over 86,000 monthly subscriptions – are managed by Newhall Publishing via e-newsletters, the magazine’s website and associated telemarketing campaigns.
In addition, each subscription has enabled Candis, through Candis Club to raise funds for a range of health charities since 1962. 2018 sees our 9th year of running the Candis Big Give Christmas Challenge, in association with the Big Give, part of the Reed Foundation. This Christmas we expect donations raised through the Candis Big Give events to reach an impressive £10 million over our 9 year partnership. Donations over the years have included support for projects launched by an array of good causes, from Marie Curie Cancer Care and Age UK to Wiltshire Air Ambulance and The Brain Tumour Charity. Since 1962 donations to health charities totalling more than a staggering £55.5 million have been made from the sales of Candis magazine via Candis Club.
Alex Day, Director of The Big Give said: “We’re proud to work with Candis as part of our Christmas Challenge campaign. Through the multiplier effect of match funding in the Christmas Challenge, Candis have helped raise over £10m for hundreds of effective charities improving people’s health and well-being across the UK. In an age of tightened public expenditure, charities are increasingly looking to companies to support their work and Candis have truly stepped up to the plate. On behalf of all of the organisations they have funded and the communities they serve, we thank them for their support and generosity.”
The magazine is always evolving to take in market changes, reader trends and to remain current and relevant in a changing society but it always has the health, happiness and promotion of family life at its heart.
